safety tips for senior citizens

equip your doorwith a dead bolt or drop-bolt lock.the lock shouldalso have ahighly pick resistant.cylinder protected by a guard plate.

a peephole,if needed,should be ofwide-angletype which gives a full view of the outside area.

do not open the door when leaving,until you are sureof the identity of your visitors.

always lock the doorwhen leaving,even to putout the trash pick up mail or walk the dog.

do not leave a house key undefr the mat,in a mailbox or in any other area near the door.

if,on return,you find the door open or tampered with do not enter.leave immediately and notify police.

if you lose your keys or they are stolen replace locks or cylinders immediately.

when leaving for an extented period of time,notify a trusted neighbor to pick up your mail and papers.

if awakened at night by an intruder ,lie still,try not to panic and at your first oppertunity,call the police.
